Oricon Update – Week 44

So this blog is now turning into a J-Pop music blog where I will type in whatever I feel like. :)
Anyways, it is Tuesday night and on Tuesday nights I will be giving my two cents about the current Oricon listings! (since Mabinogi is under maitenance on Tuesdays).

I’m only doing singles cause I don’t have the patience to listen to all the albums.
ANYWAYS.

This week those girls at AKB48 release “Beginner” and its sold over 800,000 copies. Holy crap. I personally don’t like the A-side all too well. The Undergirls did a much better job with “Boku dake no value”, but the “Kimi ga ii”s really didn’t fit well with my personal taste in music. MINT’s song on the single was “Kimi ni tsuite”, which is a pop ballad. It’s nice and all, but I just wasn’t feeling it. DIVA’s song is “Nakeru Basho” and it’s a ballad. I really like it (I’m completely biased to ballads). The only thing I don’t like is the generic sound of the chorus.

At number 2 this week we have Porno Graffitti’s new single “Kimi wa 100%”. It’s sold about 40,000 copies so far, which isn’t too bad :) I’m not a huge fan of their music, but I haven’t listened to them enough to say that they’re not worth listening to. The A-Side, “Kimi wa 100%” is a wonderful song. Akihito’s vocals are wonderful and fit perfectly with the instrumentation of the song n_n My favorite Porno Graffitti song (that I’ve heard) so far :)

At number 3 this week is Korean Idol Band Girls’ Generation with their single “Gee”. I’ve only heard one other Girls’ Generation song before so I compared this song heavily to that, and it didn’t live up to the other song. I don’t remember the other song’s name, sorry XD This song just seemed to generic and not that interesting for me, and the solo lines were few and far between.

Number 5 this week is “One day” by The Rootless. I’ve never heard of The Rootless before so I’m guessing they’re fairly new. “One day” is a J-Rock song. /skip

Number 6 this week is the single I was looking forward to most this week. “kizunairo” by Lia! Unfortunately, this song does NOT live up to any expectations I had for it. To me, it sounds like an updated version of a 90s anime opening theme. For now I’ll just stick to “Tori no Uta” and “My Soul, Your Beats!”. “I miss you” however, was definitely more ear-pleaseable than “kizunairo” was. (once again, my ballad-biasness is kicking in).

Number 8 this week is NYC’s “Yoku Asobi Yoku Manabe”. NYC is a new band to me, so I was excited to hear there new single. From the moment the song started I knew they were a young boy pop band that sings mostly in unison with each other in typical keys with key changes randomly thrown in every now and then. Not that that’s not ok or anything, just kinda predictable.
